The Greenville High School Robotics team, the Robowranglers,
won the St. Louis Regional of the FIRST (For Inspiration and
Recognition of Science and Technology) competition this past
weekend. They did it in true Texas style by defeating all
their opponents and taking the gold medal with a perfect
16-0 record.
In three days of practice, seeding and competition, the team
kept all their opponents in the loss column, while the
Robowranglers and their robot, Tumbleweed, kept everyone's
head spinning, literally. In this year's challenge the team
chose to build a racecar robot that circles the field for
points.
Ending seeding matches as the number one seed, the team was
able to choose two partner teams to take to the elimination
rounds. The Robowranglers, partnered with two squads from
Michigan: the Thunderchickens from Sterling and the Rat Pack
from Ann Arbor, for the championship bouts.
The Robowranglers are a robotics team made up of students
and teachers from Greenville High School and engineers from
RackSolutions.com and L-3 Communications Integrated Systems,
who team together each year to build a robot in six weeks.
The next regional round is scheduled for March 27-29 in New
Orleans and the championships in Atlanta are set for April
17-19.
