How far can a penny
take a person?
It can take the
Greenville High School Robotics team all the way to National
Competition in Atlanta, Ga.
Robotics team members
will kick off their annual fundraiser, "Pennies for the Bot," on
Saturday. On that day, a drop-off will be available at the
front of the high school campus from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. for people
to drop off all of their excess spare change.
In addition, classes
throughout GHS will compete to see who can contribute the most spare
change, with the winning class receiving a cupcake party,
compliments of the Robotics team.
Students will also be
going door-to-door throughout Greenville neighborhoods collecting
spare change throughout the week. The team's goal is to
collect 150,000 pennies.
In the past, judges
at Robotics competition have noted how this project gets the
community involved in working toward a common goal.
In 2002, thanks in
large part to "Pennies for the Bot," the team won the Chairman's
Award, the most prestigious award from FIRST Robotics.
Remember, your
pennies can't help while they're sitting between the cushions of
your couch or it the floorboards of your car. The Greenville
High School Robotics team hopes to see you at GHS on Saturday!
